There are a couple of installation and maintenance notes regarding these cages. To prevent potential corrosion problems or loosening, it is recommended that the special aluminum bolts have their threads coated with "LocTite" liquid thread locker, which we provide with the cage.   Since they are made of aluminum, the bolts should not be tightened excessively. The Phillips-head design makes it unlikely, but excessive tightening could break the bolt. Spare bolts are available from SpeedCific in the unlikely event you need a replacement.

After installation, we suggest you lightly wipe the cage down once in a while with an "Armor-All" type product. Please don’t coat the cage with oil or you’ll make it too slippery to hold your bottle securely. We just suggest a quick wipe now and then to shine it up and get the road grit off. The carbon fiber has a little more friction than a metal cage, so a quick wipe-down will make it work more easily and also keep it looking nice.

The cage is designed to spread open a little when the bottle is inserted, so it’s not intended to be 100% rigid like some cages. A little flex is normal, but obviously should not compromise a secure hold on the bottle. Since it does have a little built-in flexibility, we don’t suggest using this cage for most MTB applications. At 15g, it’s obviously not intended to be put through "big air" MTB maneuvers.  This cage is designed to accept standard diameter water bottles, and can be used with 24-28 oz bottles as well as the standard 16-20 oz bottles. This gives users more options in selecting a bottle than some of the "system" cages that force you to use special proprietary bottle designs.
